Webcam & Microphone Test
Check that your camera and microphone are working before your next video call.
About this tool
Preview your webcam and see a live microphone level meter to confirm both are working before a call — record five seconds of audio and play it back to hear exactly how you'll sound. Nothing is uploaded or sent anywhere.
How to use
- Press Start and allow camera/microphone access when your browser prompts you.
- Check the live video preview and switch devices using the dropdown if you have more than one camera or mic.
- Watch the audio level meter as you speak, or press Record to capture and play back 5 seconds of audio.
- Press Stop when finished to fully release the camera and microphone.
FAQ
Why isn't my camera showing up?
Make sure you allowed camera access when your browser prompted you — check your browser's site settings if you accidentally denied it. Also confirm no other app (like a video call already in progress) is currently using the camera.
How do I know if my microphone is working?
Speak normally and watch the level meter — it should move in response to your voice. For a more direct check, use the 5-second record-and-playback button to hear exactly what your microphone captures.
Is my video or audio being recorded or uploaded?
No. Your camera preview and microphone level meter are never recorded or sent anywhere. If you press the explicit Record button, the 5-second clip stays entirely in your browser for playback and is discarded when you leave the page.
Why does my browser ask for camera/microphone permission?
Browsers require explicit permission before any website can access your camera or microphone, as a privacy protection. This tool requests that permission only when you press Start, and you can revoke it at any time in your browser settings.
