FAQ
What is a good typing speed (WPM)?
Average typing speed is around 40 WPM. 60-70 WPM is considered fast and comfortable for most professional work, while touch-typing specialists can exceed 100 WPM.
How is WPM calculated?
Words per minute is calculated as (characters typed ÷ 5) ÷ minutes elapsed — 5 characters is treated as one 'word' by convention, regardless of actual word length. Accuracy is factored in separately as a percentage of correctly typed characters.
How can I improve my typing speed?
Practice regularly using proper touch-typing technique (not looking at the keyboard), focus on accuracy before speed, and use consistent finger placement. Retaking this test regularly is itself a good way to track improvement.
Does this typing test save my results?
Your personal best is saved locally in your browser using localStorage so you can track improvement over time. Nothing is sent to a server — clearing your browser data will reset it.
